Secret to an ideal body? Stay focused on the goal.

(DGIwire) — Albert Einstein said, “Mankind’s greatest problem is a perfection of means and a confusion of ends.”

It is extremely important to keep this in mind as you consider the best way to lose your excess body fat and improve your health.  The goal should always be to improve your body composition and your health as quickly as possible.  Getting caught up in interesting theories or scientific sounding minutiae will most likely send you off in the wrong direction.  Much of what sounds good intellectually or on paper is of little practical use.

The way our bodies work is fairly black and white.  Things become grey because we are so wonderfully made that we are able to subject ourselves to significant abuse without immediate and obvious consequences.  As a species we have survived a very long time when other creatures have not been so fortunate.  We are very durable and adaptable but this fact often leads to the wrong conclusions when it comes to determining the most direct way to optimal health and eventually leads to chronic disease.

“We evolved over millions of years and our bodies are adapted to eat certain types of foods.  Over the past 5,000 years and the last 150 years in particular, our diets have changed dramatically from the ideal.  Today, most people eat things that are totally alien to our evolved physiology. Most people believe that if something does not kill us or cause immediate distress that it is safe to consume,” according to Dian Griesel, Ph.D. and Tom Griesel, co-authors of TurboCharged: Accelerate Your Fat Burning Metabolism, Get Lean Fast and Leave Diet and Exercise Rules in the Dust.

All archeological evidence points to a diet based around a wide variety of plant and animal matter.  Leafy greens, non-starchy vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, eggs and various kinds of seafood and meat were the core staples depending on the season and location.  These same food groups, in reasonable proportions, are still ideal for us today.  Our bodies cannot adapt as quickly as the menus change at the local fast food restaurant.  Our health has suffered and been in a downward spiral as we have drifted further and further from our natural diet and more toward man-made and very un-natural items.

Our long evolutionary timeline has equipped us to extract all of the nutrients we need from whole natural foods.  These foods contain both known and unknown compounds that are required for our health and these compounds come packaged naturally in just the right balance and proportions.  The problem arises when we assume we can improve on things by creating new combinations or isolate certain compounds that would never occur naturally.

Tom Griesel adds, “The first and most important step to your goal of ideal body composition and optimal health is to eliminate the man-made foods, drinks and supplement creations and build your diet totally around fresh, whole, natural foods just the way Mother Nature delivers them. This approach usually accomplishes the goal without the need to go on a specific diet. ”
