The # 1 Factor for TurboCharged Health

(DGIwire) — The most important consideration for optimal health is diet.  What you eat and drink will determine your level of health and body composition more than anything else you do.  Your activity level is important too but does not even come close to diet.  In fact, being optimally active and exercising will never overcome the damage done by an improper diet.  If a choice had to made between diet and exercise, diet is the clear winner.

Eating poorly and/or eating too much will have a detrimental effect on your health.  This is a fact.  Don’t bother coming up with examples of what appear to be exceptions like your grandmother who smoked 2 packs of Camel non-filters a day and lived to 96 or people who say they eat anything and everything.  Your oil burner might run on kerosene but your cars will not because supplying the correct fuel, in the correct amount is critical. Our bodies are no different even though they seem to be able to sustain continual abuse over long periods of time.

Virtually all studies indicate that minimizing calories while supplying adequate nutrients results in the best physical health.  This also holds true for our mental health and well-being.  The mind body connection cannot be overlooked or ignored.

How then are we to eat?

Long time health researchers Dian Griesel, Ph.D. and Tom Griesel, who have also co-authored a book with some of their findings, (TurboCharged),  offer the following food for thought.

A healthier diet starts with choosing the most nutrient dense foods and eating only enough of them to maintain your health and feeling of wellbeing.  This approach is also the most economical in terms of our pocketbook and the effect on our environment.  People often comment that buying quality food like fresh meats, nuts, vegetables and fruits is expensive.  However, when we build our diets around the above guideline, the actual cost is most likely lower because the amount of food required is also lower.   When it comes to your health and the reduction of diet related diseases and other medical conditions, these natural food choices become a real bargain.

Refined and processed foods contain the most concentrated calories but are the most expensive things you can buy when considering nutrient-content-per-dollar.  Refined processed foods are only empty calories.  Our bodies recognize this and attempt to compensate by increasing our appetite to supply missing nutrients.  Because these products are virtually devoid of any needed or usable nutrients, eating more of them will not fill that void and will result in over-consumption of calories violating the second part of our health equation. Such over-consumption creates a toxic overload without even considering the ingestion of toxic substances commonly used in these products.

People frequently question the Griesel’s recommendation to avoid grains.  However, if we look at the calorie density of grains along with their nutrient density, it becomes obvious that they do not fit the guidelines for an optimal diet.  Yes, they are relatively inexpensive calories, but when compared to our recommended natural foods their nutrient content is much lower.  Are whole grains better than sugar, candy and refined, processed foods?  Of course, but they are not a great source of nutrients-per-calorie consumed.

So what’s the problem with eating too many calories?

The greater the volume of food we put into our bodies, the more energy required for digestion and the greater the amount of toxic byproducts that need to be eliminated.  Over a normal lifetime, the difference can be huge and is sure to have an overloading and suboptimal effect on our physiology and subsequent health.

A big part of any dietary success formula is the fact that people naturally start eating fewer calories when they concentrate on natural, nutrient dense foods which improves digestive efficiency.  Our bodies become totally satisfied and function optimally.  This results usually in rapid loss of excess fat, optimal body composition, more energy and greater feelings of wellbeing.  Not convinced?  Go for a test ride.
